City of Sin

So here I am, sitting... no, standing (there aren't any chairs for the computers in the lobby of the JBP library), blogging my thoughts . Unfortanatly the desire to blog caught me at one of my more rational moments, so I can't treat you to the usual kind of random observations that spedw out of my unkempt psyche, but what I can say is that I have a reasonably cheap copy of Sin City propped up between the keyboard and the monitor, so any blogging tonight will probably have a "An old man dies, a little girl lives. Fair trade." motif.

It hurts me, as a critic of early-adopting and generally anything with the term 'nu', 'new', 'noo', 'neuvaux' or 'neo' attatched to it (With the exception of neotokyo, possibly the finest post-apocalyptic setting ever seen to blow up at the end of an anime movie), but Sin City is one of the finest films I've ever seen. it's sheer stylishness is a stunning magesty of incredible power. It's writing, witty and enjoyable, with so many jokes thrown in the edges, much like is seen in comic book dialogue, and of course, in the original dialogue from the sin city comic books themselves, not to mention the decision by Miller to not only make the film out of three different stories, of which the only true connection between them is the City itself, but to film the comic books themeselves, frame for frame, rather than have some scriptwriter fuck it up to high heaven .

Now if you'll excuse me, I have lectures to go to.
